5 TEAM CHALLENGE - PART 2: Moritz On The Autobahn & Moritz The Striker
Updated: Jul 25, 2023
MORITZ ON THE AUTOBAHN
(Sebastian Braunert, 2020)
Moritz the dog has procured himself a Sinclair C5 somehow, so what better than a hazardous road trip across Europe to go visit his cousin Mortiz in Portugal? He can jump quite admirably in Sir Clive's nemesis, a hitherto unknown feature which could have saved the whole Sinclair empire if only we'd known about it earlier.
I suspect this game is mostly just an excuse for the author to indulge his love of Kraftwerk, not that there's anything wrong with that. The load screen is an amusing take on the 'Man Machine' album cover, and Pedro Pimenta supplies an ace rendition of 'Autobahn' as in-game choonage. Pretty nice and most efficient.
It's surprisingly good fun jumping on waffles in Belgium, cuckoo clocks in Switzerland, Eiffel Towers in France and braving the crazy German drivers on the autobahn itself. Platforming with a cute sense of humour. What's not to enjoy?
MORITZ THE STRIKER
(Sebastian Braunert, 2020)
Hey, I never knew good old Moritz was a Liverpool fan. Jurgen Klopp, who I share a birthday with, is short of good players (no comments please) so he has asked a dog to help. Well, it's been that sort of a season.
Moritz has to dribble his way through 20 footbally levels, to eventually score at the Kop End and sign for LFC. First he has to fetch the ball ("Good doggie, go fetch, there's a good boy" etc.), then shoot at a flag or knock a switch depending, to remove the goalie magically, then score in the open goal, like Ronny Rosenthal couldn't.
Them sprites be chonky in this game. Not many to a screen unlike the last game, but they're well drawn and characterful. Instead of losing a life, you get a yellow card. But the ref must be having a 'mare, as you get to clock up 7 or so of them before he eventually sends you off! Oh, and it plays 'Zombie Nation' when you complete a level. That's class, that.
